Test results

Quality of operation with CDs

CDWinBench 99

  • CDWinMark99 - 1520
  • CD-ROM Transfer Rate
    • Inside - 2840 KBytes/s
    • Outside - 5490 KBytes/s
  • CPU utilization - 8.71%
  • CD-ROM Access Time - 96.8 ms

Nero CD-Speed

The following information on the drive is obtained with the Drive check utility:

  • Vendor : MT1316B
  • Product : BDV212B
  • Firmware version :0.43
  • Buffer size : 512 KBytes
  • Maximum read speed : 7040 KBytes/sec (40 X)
  • CDDA accurate : yes
  • C2 pointers : yes
  • Speed settings : 4-8-16-20-24-28-32-40 X
  • Read RAW mode : yes

According to these data the drive supports all functions necessary for accurate capture of audio tracks. Besides, it has a larger buffer than specified (512 KBytes against 256 KBytes).

Quality of operation with DVD discs

Nero DVD Speed

Testing with a two-layer DVD disc

BTC BDV-212B
Average Speed 4.62x
Start Speed 2.52x
End Speed 3.24x
Random Seek 129 ms
1/3 Seek 171 ms
Full Seek 186 ms

DVD-Video playback with the Cyberlink PowerDVD 2.55

The DVD-Video was played without any problems; no artifacts were noticed. Changing of the layer didn't affect the quality of reproduction.

Noise characteristics.

  • Tray - 6/10
  • CD
    • Seek - 4/10
    • Total noise - 5/10
  • DVD
    • Seek - 5/10
    • Total noise - 6/10

At the maximum speed the noise level was quite high. Speed reduction is possible only with the help of external programs (CDBremse, Nero DriveSpeed): 4-8-16-20-24-28-32-40 X.

Vibration

When working with badly balanced CDs the drive didn't shine. It vibrated quite much. However, vibration didn't prevent from reading discs at a high speed.

Thermal conditions.

There are no any complains about its thermal conditions. The data were read after an intensive 2-hour operation:

T inside the case - 35°C
T of the upper surface - 38°C
T of the lower surface - 39°C

Possibility to make the drive region free (RPC-1).

According to www.firmware.fr.st, you can change the firmware version to make the drive region free.
