i815 Graphics (i752)

By Andrey Vorobiev

This chip is presented by i752 graphic processor integrated into i815 chipset.

Features:

  • i815 (i752) chipset, 66 MHz clock rate, 128-bit engine;
  • 8 MBytes SDRAM memory, taken from RAM, 100/133 MHz clock rate;
  • Peak speed of scene drawing in multitexturing mode is 133 megapixels/sec and 266 megapixels/sec.

This integrated card can't be tweaked.

Given accelerator is an integrated solution, built into the system chipset, and therefore having it's 3D perfomance cut. This video subsystem should be used in office solutions and cheap computer systems.

For the 20th of April'2001 the latest drivers version from Intel is 2.732.

There's no sense in discussing 3D speed features, because they are lower than those of all other cards. In addition, the last but one version made bad perfomance even worse, thus I can't advise you to use version 2.656. But the last is sometimes even worse than 2.607. There were problems with 3D graphics in a number of games. Such games like Mercedes Benz Truck Racing, Sacrifice didn't run at all. In addition, given adapter works only in 16-bit color mode, and due to this there are color dithering problems or it doesn't work at all. Below to the left are screenshots taken on this card, and to the right - taken on NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS.

Of course this GPU is not intended for superb 3D-graphics as well as for latest game requirements, therefore some bugs in the newest games may be not bugs but features. Pay your attention to wrong fog realization in Giants. This can be solved by disabling fog at game start.

Giants.exe -nofog

2D quality is fair enough. Though there's no soaping effects up to 1024x768, the 2D-graphics speed isn't even fair.
