The device ships in a Retail package.

The box contains:

• User's Manual.
• Installation manual.
• Installation Manual in the form of a colorful folding poster.
• CD with software for recording: Nero Burning Rom 5.0.3.6 and InCD 1.7 from ahead Software.
• CD with the GAMUT 2000 1.2.0 program for audio file playback.
• CD-R and CD-RW discs.
• 4 screws and "Eject Stick".
• Analog audio cable for connection of the drive to a sound card.
• IDE-cable.

AOpen recommends you to create first CDs in the Nero program. For playback of audio discs and MP3 files there is GAMUT 2000 program which can communicate with you in 7 languages.

The utility has a possibility to change an interface with the help of additional skins, and to change the character of sounding.

An information list found in the User Manual contains the maximum number of recommendations, by following of which you can provide the most stable and reliable recording process at 12X.

The drive is not very noisy. Discs extracted from the CRW-1232A are warm and that implies that the internal temperature is moderate.

If you are writing discs exactly in the Nero, then you mustn't face a problem when the JustLink is not recognized by other software. The Nero identifies the recorder correctly and gives all necessary data.

The JustLink operation has nothing to complain about. A buffer underrun problem, created artificially, didn't cause any damage of the disc, and at the end the Nero reported about that case.

Users that accustomed to work with the EasyCD Creator might have some difficulties. The AOpen won't clash with this packet of the 4.03b version. But it seems that the EasyCD doesn't support the JustLink, and since the system is not capable to provide a continuous data flow, then you may lose your CD-R.

But it should be noted that we didn't tried this drive under the EasyCD Creator of the fifth version.

If you are using the CloneCD utility, you should update it at least up to the 2.8.5.1 version. The earlier versions 2.8.4.2 and 2.8.4.3, as well as the EasyCD can work with the CRW-1232A, but the JustLink technology won't help to eliminate buffer underrun errors.

The front panel is designed traditionally for the Ricoh family:

a traditional tip-up tray lid, a headphones jack, mechanical volume control, a rectangular recessed tray button, a drive operation indicator, an emergency ejection hole. The rear panel contains a digital output.
