AMD Drops Prices of Athlon II and A-Series Processors

Last month DigiTimes reported on upcoming price reductions of older generation of AMD APUs. According to their sources, AMD was going to reduce prices of socket FM1 processors by as much as 35%. Lately AMD updated their official price list.

However, the cuts were not as big as expected. On the other side, AMD also slashed prices of all Athlon II dual-, triple- and quad-core parts by at least 14%. The most heavily discounted CPUs are Athlon II X4 640 and X2 265. Their prices were cut by 31% and 30% respectively. Remaining Athlon II X3s and X4s received 14.5% — 21% price reductions, and they are now firmly in the Pentium price range. The prices of dual-core Athlon II and A4-Series products were lowered to $36 to $48 range, which positions them against Intel Celeron line. Yesterday's price cuts also included one "Piledriver" APU, A4-5300, which is now 11% cheaper. In addition to A4-Series products, AMD shaved a few dollars off the prices of A6-3670K, A8-3850 and A8-3870K first-generation APUs.

Two Athlon II processors were removed from the pricelist, possibly because they were discontinued. These are Athlon II X3 445 and X4 638.
