Apple Releases New iMacs
Today, Apple introduced new iMac all-in-one computers, featuring quad-core Intel Core i5/i7 processors (up to 3.4 GHz), AMD Radeon HD 6750M/6770M/6970M graphics, Thunderbolt ports and a new FaceTime HD camera.
At that, the 21.5-inch model features one Thunderbolt port, while the 27-inch iMac has two. The technology itself offers throughput up to 10 Gbps and lets high-performance peripherals like RAID arrays access PCI Express bus. It also offers DisplayPort connectivity for displays and supports adapters from HDMI, DVI and VGA interfaces.
Other features include 2 x 2GB of 1333MHz DDR3 memory (optionally up to 16GB), 500GB to 1TB hard drive (optionally up to 2TB, or 256MB SSD), 4 x USB 2.0 ports, a FireWire port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, slot-loading 8x SuperDrive with 4x double-layer burning (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW).
Display resolution of the 21.5-inch model is 1920x1080 pixels, of the 27-inch model, 2560x1440 pixels.
As stated above, new iMacs come equipped with the new FaceTime HD webcam that now supports high-definition, widescreen calling. The now 'legacy' calls from iPad 2, iPhone 4, and latest-generation iPod touch are also supported.
New iMacs are traditionally enclosed into aluminium and glass, feature IPS displays, SD card slots and come bundled with Apple Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse. All iMacs also feature Mac OS X Snow Leopard and the iLife'11 suite.
Pricing for the 21.5-inch model starts from $1199, for the 27-inch model, from $1699.
