AMD Releases 790GX Desktop Platform: The Fastest mGPU and ATI CrossFireX Support
AMD announced the release of the AMD 790GX desktop platform. According to the company, it outperforms similar solutions from other companies, combining support for AMD Phenom CPUs with ATI Radeon HD 3300 mGPU (on-board GPU). Another important feature is the Advanced Clock Calibration technology that is called to unveil the potential of AMD Phenom processors.
The new platform supports ATI Hybrid CrossFireX that makes possible to combine integrated graphics with discrete ATI Radeon HD 3400 or ATI Radeon HD 2400 cards. In its turn, the supported CrossFireX technology supports multi-GPU configurations based on ATI Radeon HD 4800 series.
The platform includes the SB750 Southbridge and AMD 790GX core logic. Features include support for DirectX 10, ATI Avivo HD, Unified Video Decoder (UVD). Interfaces include DisplayPort, DVI and HDMI. Multi-monitor configurations are supported via AMD Surroundview.
According to the company, AMD 790GX represents the third generation of chipsets with the AMD Overdrive technology that simplifies performance tuning. Using Advanced Clock Calibration (a part of AMD OverDrive), gaming enthusiasts will be able to squeeze more performance from AMD Phenom Black Edition CPUs.
Motherboards based on AMD 790GX will be manufactured by AMD partners, including ASUS, ASRock, BIOSTAR GROUP, DFI, ELITEGROUP COMPUTER SYSTEMS, Foxconn Technology Group, GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY, J&W Technology, Jetway Info and MSI Computer.
