Tyan Introduces Dual-Xeon LV Server Board, New Servers
Tyan introduced the Tiger i7520SD (S5365), a low-voltage power-efficient server motherboard for the mass market. The Tiger i7520SD (S5365) uses the Intel E7520 and ESB6300 chipset in combination with Intel's brand-new Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor LV (codenamed "Sossaman"). Features of this new server motherboard include:

- Innovative pedestal and 1U-compatible layout for optimized airflow and thermal advantages
- Support for Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor LV with 667MHz Front Side Bus (FSB), Demand-Based Switching (DBS), support for Dual-Core technology, and much more
- Eight Registered DDR2-400 DIMM sockets with optional ECC checking
- Two Gigabit Ethernet network ports and one 10/100 Fast Ethernet network port
- Two PCI-X slots, two PCI-32 slots, and two PCI Express x8 slots
- One CF Type-II socket for optional solid-state memory support
- One TARO SO-DIMM socket for SATA-II and SAS optional add-on card support
- Integrated Serial ATA with RAID levels supported (0, 1)
- Built-in ATI ES1000 video controller with external video port
- Remote management features including IPMI 2.0, all in an ATX form factor
The Tiger i7520SD (S5365) will sample in late Q1'06, and will reach mass production levels in mid-Q2'06.
Two other novelties are new server platforms. For high-end performance servers which need expansive I/O and full-scale capabilities there is the Tempest i5000PX (S5380), and for entry to mid-range servers, the Tempest i5000VF (S5370) is the solution. Both the S5380 and the S5370 are based on Intel Xeon 5000 series processors (codenamed "Dempsey") with fast core speeds, high-ranking 64-bit technology, and dual core capabilities. Starting with the Tempest i5000PX (S5380), features of this full-sized server platform include:
- Support for two Intel Xeon 5000 Sequence Processors with dual core support, 64-bit, Intel Virtualization Technology, built-in anti-virus technology, etc.
- Uses the Intel 5000P chipset (codenamed "Blackford") with iASM and I/O AT features
- Supports up to eight modules of Registered DDR2-667/533 ECC FBDIMM memory
- Gigabit Ethernet ports based on the Intel "Gilgal" controller
- PCI Express slots, PCI-X slots, and BMC memory socket; includes one universal Riser slot for expansion in a rackmount application
- Remote management features including IPMI 2.0, all in a 12" x 13" SSI EEB form factor
The Tempest i5000VF (S5370) offers its own set of features to differentiate from its bigger brother, features such as:
- Support for two Intel Xeon 5000 Sequence Processors dual core support, 64-bit, Intel Virtualization Technology, built-in anti-virus technology, and much more
- Uses the Intel 5000V chipset (codenamed "Blackford-VS") with iASM and I/O AT features
- Supports up to 16 GB of Registered DDR2-667/533 ECC FBDIMM memory
- Gigabit Ethernet ports based on the Intel "Gilgal" controller
- PCI Express slots, PCI-X slot, and PCI 32-bit slots
- Integrated Serial ATA-II with RAID levels supported (0, 1)
- Remote management features including IPMI 2.0, all in a 12" x 10.5" SSI CEB form factor
The Tempest i5000PX (S5380) and Tempest i5000VF (S5370) will both sample in late Q1'06, and will reach mass production levels in mid-Q2'06.
