Micron introduces 512MB and 1GB very low-profile memory
Micron Technology introduced very low-profile (VLP) memory modules of 512MB and 1GB capacity designed for server blades.
Marked MT18HTF6472Y-40EB3 (512MB, 64Mbit x 72) and MT18HTF12872Y-40EB4 (1GB, 128Mbit x 72), novelties support DDR and DDR2 modes. The height of 18.3mm allows for vertical installation instead of the traditional way.
According to the vendor, this enables system builders to reduce space occupied by memory modules by 62% comparing to the usual design. This is also claimed to improve heat dissipation and simplify cooling system.
