Poet 6000: embedded PC powered over Ethernet
The concept of a network terminal usually implies a desktop or portable PC without some parts, e.g. a hard drive. But this time British DSP Design developed a touchscreen terminal named Poet 6000 that powers directly over Ethernet thanks to PoE (Power over Ethernet IEEE 802.3af) technology.
Initially created to power networking routers, switches and such, the PoE technology is promised to provide an opportunity to power devices with up to 30-35W in the future. For now its current incarnation gives Poet 6000 the 12W it needs.
Poet 6000, that is just 22mm deep, bases on the fanless AMD Geode processor, has 6.4" TFT display (though other sizes are also available), has Microsoft Windows XP embedded installed on Flash and features two USB ports.
