IBM announces eServer xSeries 366
As you know, yesterday Intel announced its Truland server platform featuring Xeon MP 8MB L3 processors and the support of 64-bit EM64T as well as the Å8500 chipset. Today we got to know that the company will also release the new 4-way IBM eServer xSeries 366 on the proprietary XA-64e chipset, the 3rd generation of EXA (Enterprise X-Architecture).
The server supports up to 4 x 3.66GHz Xeon MP CPUs. With 2GB RAM (8862-PAN model) it will cost about $12,000.
The XA-64e chipset bases on SOI (Silicon-on Insulator) chips, supports NUMA (Non-Uniform Memory Access), and has throughput increased by 1.5x comparing to previous systems.
Like E8500, it´s claimed to support 64-bit EM64T, PCI-X 2.0, SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) and future dual-core CPUs.
