Albatron K8SLI motherboard: SLI always on and BIOS backed up
Such interesting information about K8SLI motherboard from Albatron Technology was published at company´s Taiwanese website. This NVIDIA nForce4 SLI based board has compact dimensions of 196x292mm, but has all features of fully-fledged products:
Unlike most SLI motherboards Albatron K8SLI always operates in the "8 PCI-E channels + 8 PCI-E channels" mode and doesn´t allow all 16 PCI-E channels on the primary slot. This is so because the board design differs from the reference that implies the hardware switch. Therefore a single graphics card will anyway use only 8 PCI-E channels.
Another original innovation is the ABS (Albatron BIOS Security) technology that helps when BIOS is somehow damaged. The idea of a backup BIOS chip is not new, but is implemented in a somewhat original way: Albatron engineers placed it on an add-on mini-card that can be easily de-installed.
The price is still unknown, but considering the lack of additional integrated controllers, it shouldn´t be high.
