Found a software way to manage the amount of GeForce 6800 pixel pipelines
Alexey Nikolaychuk, the author of RivaTuner, found the mechanism which NVIDIA cards use to set 12 or 16 pipelines on GeForce 6800 and 6800GT/Ultra, respectively.
As you can see, there are 12 (12x1) pipelines (also indicated by RivaTuner).
And here´s the tab to change the amount of pipelines.
Voila! After reboot we get 16x1, i.e. 16 pipelines. Of course, if a card has 4 offline pipelines defective, it will produce artefacts and we can´t guarantee that any GeForce 6800 can be remade into a 6800GT.
Rather timely, RivaTuner indicated that recently tested MSI GeForce 6800 has 16 working pipelines! Therefore we are now correcting the article. We can´t guarantee that all newer MSI cards will have 16 working pipelines though.
