Samsung introduces 8GB DDR SDRAM modules
Samsung Electronics introduced 8GB DDR SDRAM modules on 1Gbit elements (0.10µm). Novelties are designed for high-performance servers, workstations and various specialized systems. According to IDC, the latter will result in 1Gbit DDR SDRAM market increasing up to $9.5 billion in 2007.
The new modules feature either dual-stacked 1Gbit DDR SDRAM in TSOP package or quad-stack 1Gbit DDR SDRAM in FBGA package. Thus an 8GB module features 36 TSOP or 18 FBGA chips on both PCB sides.
The utilized FBGA package is standard for DDR2 SDRAM, so it can be used in modules made of new-generation chips.
8GB DDR SDRAM DIMM modules are already sampling to server builders.
