Toshiba introduces MK1031GAS, 100GB 2.5" hard drive
Toshiba, seemingly pretending for 2.5" HDD leadership, introduced MK1031GAS (sampling in May,) a 100GB hard drive for portable PCs, especially those handling lots of visual information.
The 80Gbit/inch2 became possible due to the transition from pico to femto heads that are 35% smaller than the former. The drive consumes about 20% less energy than other competing solutions and can sustain 325g operating shocks for up to 2ms that´s twice longer than other solutions can offer. Besides, the drive provides only 21dB noise in standby.
