Sony obtains license to IBM Power architecture
IBM officially informed that it had granted the license to its Power architecture to Sony.
Sony has been planning to use IBM developments in its consumer electronics for a long time, so now it can officially develop its own systems-on-chip based on IBM Power.
The current IBM Power processors are made using copper conductors and SOI (Silicon-On-Insulator) and work in various devices from mobile handsets to servers. Currently the most interesting representative of this family is the 90nm Power PC 970FX for use in new Apple G5 systems.
