NEC LOOKPAL: a PDA with a 8.4" LCD and a CD-ROM
It´s hard to refer NEC´s LOOKPAL introduced today to a particular device class. The novelty bases on 400MHz Intel PXA255 processors natural for PDAs, has 32MB RAM and 64MB ROM, 640x480x65K LCD just like a usual PDA... But at the same time, other features make it closer to a single-spindle ultralight notebook: 8.4" display diagonal, CD-ROM drive, LAN, 243x161x34mm size and 1.1kg weight. Such a technological hybrid.

NEC itself positions LOOKPAL as a personal CD-ROM-equpped terminal for Web and image browsing, music playback, etc. The device features a Li-Ion battery that provides up to 2 hours of operation, supports HTML/PDF/JPEG/BMP and Word/Excel/PowerPoint browsing, and operates under a Linux clone. In Japan the model costs ¥68,250 (about $620).
