Intel announces 3GHz Xeon MP with 4MB L3 cache and declares 25% performance boost
Intel officially announced the new Xeon MP processors for multiprocessor environments and declared that their performance should be 25% higher than that of the previous models. The new processors feature 3.0GHz clock rate, 4MB L3 cache.
System builders, including Unisys, Bull, Dell, Egenera, Fujitsu, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Gateway, HP, Hitachi, IBM, Kraftway, Langchao, Lenovo, NEC, Powerleader, Samsung, and Toshiba plan to ship over 50 multiway (4-32 CPUs) Xeon-based servers this year. And Intel itself also announced the 4-way Intel Server Compute Blade SBX44 on the new Xeon MP products.
3GHz Intel Xeon MP with 4MB L3 cache is available now. In over 1,000-unit quantities it costs $3,692 (2.7GHz and 2.2GHz Xeons with 2MB L3 cache today cost $1,980 and $1,177, respectively.)
