AMD unveils 6 low-voltage Opteron HE and EE server and workstation processors
Today AMD unveiled 6 first low-voltage Opteron processors for 1-way to 8-way servers and workstations. The three of HE (Highly Efficient) class feature ~55W energy consumption, while the three EE (Energy Efficient) models consume about 30W. The new Opteron 146 HE, 246 HE and 846 HE chips work at 2GHz. Opteron 140 EE, 240 EE, 840 EE chips work at 1.4GHz.
All the new Opteron HE and EE products have 940-pin bodies and are made at Fab30 in Dresden using 0.13µm process.
AMD is going to launch shipments of these novelties within 30 days. In over 1,000-unit quantities Opteron 140 EE and 146 HE will cost $733, 240 EE and 246 HE — $851, while 840 EE and 846 HE will cost $1514.
