8.2Mp Canon EOS-1D Mark II: old name, new stuffing

In the nearest future Canon is to release a new version of the popular Canon EOS-1D DSLR — Canon EOS-1D Mark II. As you can see, the company decided not to change the widespread model name launched as far back as in the late 2001, despite the serious changes, including the 8.2Mp CMOS sensor, DIGIC-II processor.

At the moment we know the following model specs:

  • 8.5Mp CMOS sensor (8.2Mp effective)
  • 8.2x8.2µm dot size
  • 3:2 aspect ratio
  • 28.7x19.1mm matrix size
  • EF lens (except EF-S)
  • 1.3x focal coefficient
  • DIGIC II processor
  • TTL-AREA-SIR (CMOS) autofocus
  • Viewfinder of 100% coverage, 0.72 coefficient, dioptre correction from —3 to +1D
  • Auto (CMOS) white balance plus 6 presets, 9 WB correction levels, "blue/yellow", purple/green; manual color temperature with 2800K — 10000K range, 3 user presets.
  • 30-1/8000s shutter
  • 2s, 10s timer
  • 8.5 fps burst, up to 40 x JPEG shots at the maximum resolution or 20 x RAW images
  • ISO50-ISO3200
  • E-TTL II sync contact (Speedlite EX compatible)
  • 2" LCD, 230K pixels, 5 brightness levels
  • CompactFlash Type I, II, Microdrive; Secure Digital (FAT16/32) media
  • JPEG, RAW, RAW + JPEG image formats
  • RAW (3504x2336) 8.2MB; Large (3504x2336) 8.2MB; Medium 1 (3104x2072) 6.4MB; Medium 2 (2544x1696) 4.3MB; Small (1728x1152) 2MB resolutions
  • Up to 30s WAVE comments for each shot
  • IEEE 1394, USB 1.1 (PTP), Video (PAL/NTSC) interfaces
