Sanyo to release 20 million digital cameras in 2004
The morning issue of Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported about Sanyo Electric plans to considerably increase the production of digital cameras next year. It´s no wonder all analysts unanimously forecast the boost in this sector for these years. Besides, Sanyo is also known as a production partner of at least 5 well known companies, including Nikon and Olympus. Almost 90% of Sanyo digital cameras is shipped under other brands.
To fulfil all orders in 2004 Sanyo is going to increase the digital camera production by 74% and achieve 20 million units per year. For this it will extend production lines at Osaka prefecture (from 2 to 3 million units yearly). The production at Dongguan, China and Bogor, Indonesia is to be doubled to achieve 7 million and 8 million units per year, respectively. The production at the fab in Masan, South Korea is to remain the same 2 million per year.
The production upgrade expenditures are estimated below ¥1 billion (about $9.26 million) that is considerably less than costs for a new fab.
