VIA PT880 dual-channel chipset officially announced
VIA Technologies officially announced its first dual-channel DDR chipset for the Pentium 4 platform — VIA PT880. High time I´d say, as some makers have already announced their products on it.
VIA PT880 will feature VIA VT8237 Southbridge that naturally supports 6/8-ch. VIA Vinyl Multichannel Audio, 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet, 8 x USB2.0, 2 x Serial ATA, etc. As for the PT880 Northbridge, it differs from PT800 only by a dual-channel DualStream64 controller (up to 8GB DDR400, including ECC). Similar to the previous chipset, VIA PT880 supports Pentium 4 with 800MHz FSB and Hyper-Threading, AGP 8X.
ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, ABIT and other companies have already announced the support of this novelty.
