Microprocessor Forum: the first photo of a 8-way IBM Power5 chip
Yesterday at Microprocessor Forum IBM reported about its Power5 family of processors and today we found the first photo of this monster.
We already know that Power5 will feature several modified Power4 cores as well as larger L2 cache and external L3 cache, and integrated memory controller with 1024Gb addressing.
On the photo you can see the 8-way Power5 MCM chip (or its fake) with 144Mb cache. Though it´s already known that Power5 like Power4 will start from 2-way models. Considering the fact that 2-core Power5 will contain 276 million transistors, I don´t date think how many this 8-way wafer will have... :)
