Desktop and mobile AMD Athlon 64 officially announced
Just these minutes AMD announced its new processors. How many times we guessed about AMD Athlon 64 capabilities and performance! Finally, we can speak of the actual results.
So, AMD officially introduced AMD Athlon 64 3200+ and AMD Athlon 64 FX-51 desktop processors and AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3000+ and 3200+ for DTR (Desktop Replacement) notebooks. (Mobile models do not have crystal covers).
Athlon 64 will be used with Socket 754 motherboards. It has an integrated single-channel DDR400 memory controller. The actual clock speed is 2.0GHz, L1 cache is 128Kb, L2 – 1Mb.
Athlon 64 FX has real clock speed of 2.2GHz. It will be used with Socket 940 boards. It supports registered DDR400 and has 128Kb L1 cache and 1Mb L2 cache.
All chips are made using 0.13µm process at Fab 30 in Dresden, Germany. In over 1,000-unit quantities Athlon 64 3200+ will cost $417, while Athlon 64 FX-51 — $733. AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3000+ and 3200+ will cost $278 and $417, respectively.
It´s interesting that AMD Athlon 64 3200+ and AMD Athlon 64 FX-51 have 85W and 89W energy consumption, respectively. Mobile processors have about the same values and this explains why they are positioned for DTR systems. Another interesting thing is that Cool´n´Quiet technology can be used with any AMD64 processors, if supported by motherboard.
But enough official words, let´s get closer to real results. So, read and enjoy:
