2È Blu-ray Disc from Pioneer and TDK
Just wonderful the standard is still draft, but the speed is already doubled! :-) Pioneer and TDK both members of next generation DVD standard developers group Blu-ray Disc, today announced the development of Blu-ray discs with 2X recording capability.

New discs are supposed to be fully compatible with 1È samples. They feature new magnetic coating metallic material. Other features:
- Storage capacity: 23.3/25 Gb
- Laser wavelength: 405 nm ("blue" laser)
- NA: 0.85
- Data transmission rate: 36 (1È) and 72 (2È) Mbps
- Disc diameter: 120 mm
- Disc thickness: 1.2 mm (with Optical Penetration Protection of 0.1 mm)
- Track pitch: 0.32 Þm
- Pit length: 0.16/0.149 Þm
- Record side density: 16.8/18.0 Gbit/sq.inch
- Record power: 4.5~6.0 mW
The companies plan to show the new technology at the international ISOM/ODS2002 conference to be held on July, 7-11 on the U.S. Hawaii island (the State of Hawaii).
