IBM: 146 gigabytes of "pixie dust"
Despite the announced intention to leave the HDD market, IBM continues to release new interesting products. Now the company presented new 146 GB 146Z10 hard disk of the Ultrastar line and announced its mass shipments.
Ultrastar 146Z10 has 8 MB buffer, features 10000 RPM, 4.7 ms access time, 36 GB per plate data density. The new model utilizes the special Rotational Vibration Safeguard technology.
Besides, according to IBM France, it´s the first hard disk utilizing "pixie dust" antiferromagnetic technology.
The new products line features 18 GB, 36 GB, 73 GB and 146 GB hard disks, including Ultra 320 SCSI and Fibre Channel versions.
