"Non-cooler" 2.2 GHz Intel Xeon box for 1U servers
We´ve already used to the fact that Intel Xeon with about 2 GHz clock rate is spoken of along with a massive cooling system with a large heat-sink. So, no one even mentions blade servers.
But: Intel currently produces special processor packages for 1U rackmounts, that include 2.2 GHz server Xeon and a massive copper plate without any coolers!

These products appeared last weekend in Japanese retail. The title on the box reads: "... for Dual-Processor 1U Rack Server Platforms", a qualification sticker tells that this CPU features 400 MHz FSB, 512KB of L2 cache, 1.5 V supply voltage. Just a usual Prestonia-based Xeon made using 0.13-micron process technology.

As you know, TDP (Thermal Design Power) for 2.2 GHz Xeon chips is 61 W. Of course, despite the supplied heat-sink will deal with this amount of heat, the system still requires a forced airflow.
I´ll just remind that Intel also produces special SE7500WV2 motherboards for 1U-2U rack servers (for more details see Intel Xeon Processor for 1U Rack Mount Servers). And the price of this package (in Japan) makes about $320.
