Aopen releases external CD-RW/DVD-ROM combos
AOpen reported the release of new external slim CD-RW/DVD-ROM combos to be shipped within the month. They are designed for owners of notebooks with high-speed peripheral interfaces.
24È drives that will be sold under the Aopen trademark, will initially feature IEEE 1394 and then 1394 and USB 2.0. These models will appear on the markets within the nearest half-year. AOpen also reported plans to actively attract OEM makers to this business sector.
In addition Aopen stated some optical disc market forecasts. According to the company, if in August CD-ROM orders grew by about 20%, DVD-ROM orders grew as well, but CD-RW demand reduced and will doubtfully noticeably grow in September. By the year-end AOpen forecasts demand growth due to the traditional seasonal activity. In the third quarter the company expects 20% sales volume growth comparing to the last year and additional growth by the New Year.
