A line of $200 VIA C3 computers from Microtel PC
An interesting line of inexpensive PC was released by Microtel PC. Online WalMart.com showcased four new Microtel PC systems: SYSMAR710, SYSMAR715, SYSMAR150 and SYSMAR151, based on 800 MHz VIA C3 with 133 MHz FSB.
PCs feature VIA PLE133 system board with integrated graphics, 128MB SDRAM, 10 GB hard disk. For $199 one can buy a system with pre-installed Lindows (Linux, compatible with some Windows applications). A similar system with Microsoft Windows XP costs $299.84 or $399.72 with a 15-inch monitor. Optionally you can buy a 56 Kbps modem and/or 10/100-Mbps Ethernet.
It´s interesting that the previous lowest price record on Wal-Mart belonged to $299 Microtel PC, based on 850 MHz Duron with Lindows. For the same $299 one can purchase a Microtel PC system, based on 900 MHz Duron without an OS installed.
