Pioneer DVR-A05-J: new speeds of DVD-R/RW recording
Early in October Pioneer is to sell the new DVR-A05-J DVD-R/RW, providing 4x DVD-R recording and 2x DVD-RW recording. It´s interesting that these new standards (DVD-R for General Version 2.0 / 4X-SPEED DVD-R Revision 1.0 and DVD-RW Version 1.1 / 2X-SPEED DVD-RW Revision 1.0, respectively) were ratified by DVD Forum only in August.
To reduce vibrations, the company used DRA (Dynamic Resonance Absorber), familiar to Pioneer DVD-ROM users. DVR-A05-J also utilizes new chassis. Recording speeds are: DVD-R 4È, DVD-RW 2È, CD-R 16x, CD-RW 8x; read speeds are: DVD-R/RW 6x, DVD-ROM 12x, CD-ROM 32 x. DVR-A05-J features 2MB buffer.
DVR-A05-J can work under Windows 98 SE/ME/2000/XP. The expected retail price is about $290.
DVR-A05-J will start simultaneously with the sales of new 4x DVS-RP470A DVD-R blanks ($5.8 per unit), DVS-RP470AP5 (the same, 5-blank pack) for $25, and 2x DVS-RWP470A DVD-RW blanks for $7.5 per unit and 5-blank DVS-RWP470AP5 packs for about $33.
