Intel: quarter results and development prospects
Intel announced Q3 financial results. The total revenue made $6.5 billion, that´s 3% higher than in the previous quarter and almost corresponds to the similar last-year value.
In Q3 2002 Intel´s net profit made $686 million, that´s 54% higher than in the previous quarter and 547% higher than in the same quarter last year. The per-stock profit made $0.10, that´s 43% higher than in the previous quarter and 400% higher than Q3 2001.
In Q3 the net profit without $108 million expenses due to purchasing other companies, made $768 million, 24% than in the previous quarter and 17% higher than last year. The corresponding per-stock profit made $0.11, 22% higher than in the previous quarter and 10% higher than in Q3 2001.
On October 10, 2001 Texan court decided that having released Intel Itanium the company violated the copyright of Intergraph. According to April 2002 agreement Intel agreed to pay Intergraph $150 million within 30 days after the court decision effectiveness and another $100 million on Intergraph´s first demand. Intel strives to court decision reconsideration. The provisional analysis shows that payments will be capitalized and amortised in several years and won´t affect Q3 results.
Intel forecasts $6.5-6.9 billion revenues in Q4 2002. R&D expenses (except for unfinished), administrative and management expenses will supposedly make $2.1 billion in Q4 2002. Total R&D expenses of 2002 (except for unfinished) are expected to make about $4.0 billion.
Total production means expenses of 2002 will supposedly make $4.7 billion, that´s lower than forecasted $5.0-5.2 billion. These expenses will mainly reduced due to current project fund savings. Besides, the company is to reduce equipment expenses in Q4 due to some tools reuse.
