Intel announces Serial ATA II, iSCSI products
Today Intel announced a line new of network storage products, thus having entered the market of Serial ATA II and iSCSI appliances. New products include Serial ATA controller, iSCSI adapter, and new ultra-low voltage Celeron.
New Intel GD31244 PCI-X to Serial ATA controller is the industry first to support Serial ATA II. It’s designed for NAS servers, RAID arrays, and other storage systems. Each of it’s four ports enables up to 1.5 Gbps throughput. It supports Intel IOP321 RAID interface processor for RAID-on-the-motherboard and RAID SRCZCR.
New second-generation IP Storage iSCSI Intel PRO/1000 T, based on Intel Xscale, is to fill the gap between expensive Fibre Channel SAN and lower-end Ethernet LAN solutions.
We’ve reported about the announcement of 400 MHz Low Voltage Intel Celeron before. It will be used in embedded appliances, including entry-level NAS.
31244 chip ($22 in over 10,000-unit quantities) and PRO/1000 controller will appear in Q1 2003. Shipments of 400 MHz ULV Celeron have already started, the price is $38 in over 1,000-unit quantities.
