Philips promises 8õ DVD+RW in H1 2003
Philips Electronics announced the reference kit for creating DVD recorders supporting DVD+RW. It includes chipset, optical pickup, and firmware, and supports 8x recording. The company is going to start component licensing and sales already in H1 2003.
According to Philips representatives, currently the company aims at reducing DVD+RW cost prices. Today’s chipset price makes about $65 in over 100,000-unit quantities, reduction will continue due to development of more integrated solutions and reducing chip amount in the kit.
