Wi-Fi Alliance announces WPA to replace WEP
Non-profit Wi-Fi Alliance, working on IEEE 802.11 products certification, announced new security standard Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) to replace the current WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy).
First solutions are expected in Q1 2003. For existing products to support the new standard, most makers are expected to release updated firmware and software.
The new standard was developed by Wi-Fi Alliance together with IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) 802.11.
