AMD partners for AMD Opteron serverboard production
British The Inquirer, known by startling ability to get rumours, posted a number of revelation about the closest AMD plans.
According to provisional data (i.e. rumours) to produce AMD Opteron (SledgeHammer) serverboards AMD will partner with FIC, Gigabyte, Arima, Tyan, and MSI. Initially Opteron boards (also featuring all workstation capabilities) will be based on multiple-CPU chipsets codenamed "Rhapsody". In such systems processors will be interconnected by HT (HyperTransport). These will be the chipset series for various processors:
- AMD 8000 for Athlon 64 systems
- AMD 8200 for Opteron DT systems
- AMD 8400 for 4-CPU Opteron MP systems
- AMD 8800 for 8-CPU Opteron MP systems
FIC´s Adonis board will be designed for 2U modules and support up to 12Gb ECC registered PC2100, PC2700, have three 64-bit/100MHz PCI slots, integrated SCSI Ultra 320, 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports, integrated video, and also support IPMI 1.5.
Gigabyte K8DPDW board for 2U racks will support AGP 8X, feature two 64-bit/100MHz PCI slots, one 64-bit/66MHz PCI slot, one 32-bit/33MHz PCI slot, integrated IDE and Serial ATA.
Arima HDAMA, similar to FIC Adonis, will also be designed for pedestals, additionally supporting Serial ATA.
MSI MS-9131, similar to Arima HDAMA, will additionally feature Ultra 320 and IDE and wont feature Serial ATA.
Tyan will release the dual-processor Thunder K8 (S2880) with IDE and Dual Ultra 320 SCSI, supporting up to 12Gb ECC registered PC2100, PC2700, etc.
All of the above will have the Extended ATX design. Perhaps, IWILL with its DAK8 ATX board will become the 6th partner. The board will feature Broacom Gigabit Ethernet, 4 DIMM DDR333 sockets, 4 PCI-X 64/66 slots, PCI 32/33 slot, S-ATA RAID and USB 2.0.
