AMD multiprocessor system roadmap
Another portion of provisional data/rumours regarding AMD server processor roadmap for 2003-2004 from the British The Inquirer.
According to it, multiprocessor Opteron (Sledgehammer MP) will initially appear in three versions. One of them, made using the 0.13-micron process technology, will be aimed at 8-CPU systems supporting DDR333, having 1Mb L2 cache, 3 HyperTransport (HT) buses. Dual-processor SledgeHammer DP chips will have features similar to the third SledgeHammer version for single-CPU systems. For the dual-processor market AMD also prepares the 0.13-micron Barton chips with 512Kb L2 cache, supporting 266MHz FSB and DDR266.
In H1 2004 AMD is to announce 90-nm SOI Athens for 8-CPU systems, featuring 1Mb L2 cache and supporting DDR II-400, along with the new 90-nm SledgeHammer DP – Troy, supporting DDRII-400 as well, and, finally, Venus.
This, according to The Inquirer, is how server processors will be positioned in 2003.
