Taiwanese AU Optronics received 20% in Fujitsu Display
Japanese Fujitsu and its Fujitsu Display Technologies division signed memorandum of understanding with AU Optronics (AUO) to widely collaborate in the field of LCD panel development and production. Companies negotiated Taiwanese part to get 20% equiv. of Fujitsu Display Technologies.
As you know, Fujitsu Display subsidiary was formed by Fujitsu in June last year. Separation of LCD production business was a part of Fujitsu restructuring program. From the very beginning the company aimed at alliances with Japanese and foreign companiesto reduce production cost price. AU Optronics was created in September 2001 by the merge of Acer Display Technologies and Unipac Optoelectronics.
The complete agreement information will be published in March. According to provisional data, Fujitsu and AU Optronics are going to make an additional $1.1 billion investment to expand the development, production, and marketing of LCD displays. Besides, both partners will exchange patents in this field, and the Japanese side will continue to move facilities to Taiwan, according to the production cost price reduction program.
