SiS discontinues its 0.13-micron process technology
Taiwanese sources informed that SiS finally decided to discontinue plans for moving to own 0.13-micron process technology. From now on the company will order all chips from production partners, United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) being the first of them.
As you might remember, SiS announced the pilot production of 0.13-micron GPUs on its 200mm fab in Q1 2002. Volume production, planned to H2 2002, was cancelled after negotiations with UMC.
The closest SiS and UMC partner plans include the production of the first consignment at UMC facilities in Q2. At the same time SiS own facilities will continue to make 0.15-micron GPUs.
Besides, the company has changed its strategy as well. Now SiS plans to raise the profitability of manufacture and release high-end solutions in the future.
