Western Digital announces the external Caviar FireWire/USB 2.0 Combo
Western Digital announced shipments of new external storage solutions supporting FireWire/USB 2.0.
New Western Digital FireWire/USB 2.0 Combo feature 7200rpm hard drive, 2Mb buffer and 120Gb (WDXC1200BBRNN) and 200Gb (WDXC2000BBRNN) capacities. Average track-to-track seek is claimed to be about 2ms, average positioning – 8.9ms, at that the nominal latency makes 4.2ms. Devices are backward compatible with USB 1.1 and can work in Windows 98 SE/ME/2000/XP or Mac OS v9.x and higher. Their dimensions are 44.20x218.75x154.43 mm, power supply provides 100-240V, 50-60Hz, consumption current is up to 0.6A. Featuring one-year warranty, 120Gb version has MSRP of $299, 200Gb – of $399.
