IDF Spring 2003: new Intel IXP420, IXP421 and IXP422 network processors
Intel announced three new network processors for SOHO and small/medium business wired/wireless networks.

New Intel IXP420, IXP421 and IXP422 feature Intel Xscale architecture, provide secure data and voice transfers. Supporting encryption IXP422 is designed for home gateways and wireless access points as well as for small/medium business routers and switches. IXP421 is meant for data and voice over IP devices. Finally, IXP420 is optimized for broadband connections and is intended for home gateways and small-office routers combined with external modems.
Intel IXP4XX processors are already used by such network tool providers, as Linksys.
Currently Intel together with Microsoft works on porting Windows CE .NET for Intel IXP425 processor.
Samples of IXP420 and IXP422 are expected in April, volume shipments – in June; IXP421 samples are expected in July, volume shipments – in September. In over 10,000-unit quantities IXP420 will cost $20.90, IXP421 – $22.80, IXP422 – $22.30, IXP425 $26.60 to $61.80 depending on clock speed (266, 400, 533MHz) and temperature range (commercial or extended). Windows CE .NET for IXP425 will arrive later this year.
