Infineon releases new DDR/DDR2 solutions
Infineon launched shipments of 512Mbit DDR2 SDRAM samples. These are not graphics DDR2, but the second-generation DDR SDRAM for servers, workstations and, high-end desktops and notebooks.

512Mbit DDR2 samples with 400Mbps, 533Mbps and 667Mbps pin performance meet JEDEC’s drafts and are made using Infineon´s proprietary 110nm process technology. Each chip features four banks, organized as x4, x8 and x16. Besides, they have 4-bit prefetch block, strobbing and adjustable output impedance.
According to Infineon, DDR2 chips will be in demand by 2004, when the company will be ready to launch the volume production.

Besides, the company announced shipments of 1Gb 200-pin DDR SO-DIMM modules for high-end notebooks. Each features eight 1Gbit modules of two 512Mbit chips, are organized as 2x128Mbitx64. Engineering samples cost $900, volume shipments will start in Q2 2003.
Another Infineon novelty is 512Mbit Mobile-RAM chips for PDA, smartphones, tablets and digital cameras.
