Fujitsu MHT20xxAH: a new series of mobile 2.5" high-end hard drives
Fujitsu announced a new series of mobile 2.5" high-end hard drives, MHT20xxAH.
It provides 5400rpm rotation that should reduce the average seek time by 22% vs. older 4200rpm Fujitsu MHT20xxAT series, according to the press release. Besides, new models have larger 8Mb buffer vs. previous 2Mb. Currently MHT20xxAH series includes 40/60/80Gb models. The GDT (Glass Direct Texture) technology, already used in the previous Fujitsu HDD lines, provide high data density up to 69Gbit/in.².
MHT20xxAT key specs:
- 40/60/80Gb capacity
- 5400rpm
- 12ms average seek
- 100Mb/s throughput
- 8Mb buffer
- 10.7Gbit/cm² (69Gbit/in.²) max. data density
- 225G (2ms) operating shock protection; up to 900G (1ms) standby shock protection
- 5V±5% voltage
- 2.3W read/write, 0.25W standby, 0.85W idle energy consumption
- 29dB standby noise level
- 99g weight
First shipments of MHT20xxAH hard drives will start in June. In total the company plans to ship 200,000 units in 2003 and up to 400,000 units in 2004.
