IEEE 802.11g is ratified!
Standards Board of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has at last ratified the final IEEE 802.11g specifications.
We´ve repeatedly wrote about this new version of WLAN standard, so now we can just state it´s real and remind you the specs: being an extended version of 11Mbps IEEE 802.11b (i.e. Wi-Fi), it provides up to 54Mbps bandwidth. Both standards utilize the same 2.4GHz range unlike IEEE 802.11a that provides 54 Mbps at 5GHz. IEEE 802.11g is backward compatible with IEEE 802.11b that enables devices of both standards to work in same networks.
In the nearest future we should see a wave of announced solutions officially supporting IEEE 802.11g. More details about the standard are available at IEEE 802.11 official website.
