VIA cancels Pentium 4 mobo production
According to The Digitimes, VIA Technologies, decided to cancel the business of VIA Platform Solutions Division (VPSD) focused on Pentium 4 motherboards. Possibly, the company will transfer all assets to First International Computer (FIC). VIA refuted the rumours about cancellation, but confirmed the transfer. As for the VPSD, it will focus on EPIA motherboards, some of which are sold with C3 processors.
This message hasn’t become a surprise. Founded on October 15, 2001, VPSD was considered a division for Pentium 4 promotion on the background of suits with Intel. As the products were designed for the brandname market, VPSD was considered a rival to VIA mobo customers. According to the parental company, since its announcement VPSD has been selling 100,000 P4 and 50,000-60,000 EPIA motherboards monthly.
