SiS unveiles SiS648MX and SiSM661MX chipsets for Pentium M
Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS), a supplier
of core logic products, today announced the company has reached agreement with
Intel Corporation for a Pentium M microprocessor license. This gives SiS the
necessary rights to build chipsets for Intel Pentium M microprocessors.
Just right after the announcement, SiS unveiled two chipsets: Incorporated
with SiS162 wireless LAN (WLAN) chipset, the discrete chipset, SiS648MX, and
the integrated chipset, SiSM661MX.
With 400 MHz System Bus, the SiS648MX supports memory capacity up to DDR 3G
and the AGP 8X graphic interface. In conjunction with wireless network chipsets,
the SiS648MX is also capable of providing customers with the ideal solution
for wireless networks. SiS648MX supports the HyperStreaming Engine technology,
with emphasis on upgrading the overall performance of PC systems. Through all-inclusive
hardware management and system resource distribution, it effectively manages
CPU, Front Side Bus, south-/north-bridge chips, memory controller, graphic interface
and each I/O peripheral, enhancing PC function to the maximum while fully demonstrating
the unparallel efficiency of the Intel platform.
Taking advantages of power management function of the Intel Pentium M,
the SiSM661MX delivers excellent operating environment with low power consumption
and high system efficiency. Coupled with SiS963 south bridge chipset, the chipsets
provide a transmission bandwidth up to 1G between the north and the south bridges.
The SiSM661MX also employs the unique Real256E graphic engine with the exclusive
Ultra-AGPII technology, which provides lower signal latency and offers greater
transmission bandwidth between the built-in graphic engine and the memory controller,
which provide excellent operating environment and outstanding display quality
for heavy gamers and digital video players. The flexible dual-view application
allows the screen to be simultaneously displayed on a CRT, TV or LCD monitor,
and supports a maximum resolution of 1600x1200 in the full screen UXGA display.
Designed exclusively for wireless broadband, SiS162 is the only wireless LAN
(WLAN) chipset currently on the market that supports USB 2.0 interface of 480Mb/s
high speed transmission function. It offers data transfer rates of 1, 2, 5.5,
and 11 Mb/per second, which is compliant with the 802.11b wireless local network
(WLAN) standard. Its minimal size of the wireless communication module achieved
through advanced manufacturing process effectively lowers the overall manufacturing
cost.
Mass production of SiS648MX and SiSM661MX will commence in the 4th quarter
of 2003. Motherboards adopting these chipsets will be available in the market
in early 2004.
