NVIDIA GeForce 256 DDR
By Andrew
Worobyew
This chip is presented by Creative 3D Blaster GeForce Annihilator Pro 32 MBytes, AGP videocard.

Features:
- NVIDIA GeForce 256 DDR chip, 120 MHz clock rate;
- 32 MBytes SDRAM memory in eight Infineon 6ns microchips, 150 (300)
MHz clock rate , 128-bit bus;
- Peak speed of scene drawing in multitexturing mode is 240 megapixels/sec
and 480 megatexels/sec.
Overclocks to 150/170 (340) MHz (see summary diagrams).
Cards based on GeForce256 GPU with SDR memory have appeared in the end of 1999,
being a very powerful accelerator, the first to have a built-in geometrical
coprocessor, providing the hardware coordinate transformation and lighting
under condition of game's T&L support. Nowadays it's the basic level
accelerator getting closer to the lowest level. In NVIDIA's GPU line
this card is third from the bottom after GeForce2 MX and GeForce256
SDR. Such cards are not manufactured anymore and only remaining supplies
are on sale now.
Therefore we don't test drivers with this card, but will continue
to consider its results in the summary diagrams, and this card will
continue to take part in ratings. We'll decide whether to stop testing
or not along with disappearance of these cards from the market.
There are no 3D quality problems in any game. You can compare screenshots
with the reference ones (NVIDIA GeForce3).

2D quality is good enough. Only in 1600x1200x75 Hz and in 1280x1024x100 Hz you
can see some "soaping" effects on some monitors. The majority
of users will be satisfied. And I shall mark that 6.* version drivers
are not compatible with the software for sound cards based on Yamaha processor,
as well as with SoftXG100 software synthesizer. Start or Close Window
buttons can be spoiled by some "garbage" in 2D mode.
