This chip is presented by Prolink PixelView GeForce4 MX 440-8x, 128MB AGP.
Features:
- NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 chip with AGP8x, clock rate 280 MHz;
- 128MB SDR SGRAM memory in eight Samsung 4ns chips, clock -
520 MHz, 128-bit bus;
- Peak fill rate in the multitexturing mode (without optimizations) is 560 megapixels/sec and 1120 megatexels/sec.
The beginning of April brought us the announcement of the new GeForce4 family. It included not only the top Ti 4400/4600 models, but also mainstream MX 420/440/460. The latter cards were not the pared-down GeForce4 Ti, but a kind of a hybrid of GeForce2 and GeForce4. The new MXes lost not only the the half of pixel pipelines (2 of 4), but also the pixel shaders block, 3-level anisotropy, and EMBM support. This "castration" resulted in a cheap chip to easily compete not only with previous GeForce2 products, but also with ATI RADEON 7500 cards. These cards still have the GeForce4 core, including the faster memory controller, thus they demonstrate higher speed than their analogs released a year and a half ago. The medium MX440 model have almost succeeded in replacing GeForce2 Ti/Pro. But Intel have released AGP 3.0 specification, and NVIDIA implemented it in the "same" MX440, supporting AGP 8x and featuring higher memory clock. NVIDIA tries to oppose this card to ATI RADEON 9000 (though doubtfully, as the latter supports DirectX 8.1). This card has surplus 64MB of memory or, in other words, surplus AGP 8X, as there are no games with such texture volumes.

These cards also compete with ATI RADEON 7500. But the release of new ATI RADEON 9000 solutions may shatter MX 440 positions, being faster and sometimes cheaper, not mentioning DX81 support, absent in GF4MX.
Wasn't overclocked.
On the 10th of October 2002 the latest drivers from NVIDIA are 31.40, 40.52, 40.71, 40.72 for Windows XP.

And 6.* drivers are not compatible with the software for sound cards based on Yamaha processor, as well as with SoftXG100 software synthesizer. Start or Close Window buttons might be spoiled by some "garbage" in 2D mode. One solution is in the iXBT Forum.
